CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP RULES

How it Works

  • The Saddleworth Club Championship is an annual competition, running each calendar year.

  • Prizes are awarded according to performance in 15 races selected by the committee.

  • Points system will work by awarding the 1st finisher in each championship 50 points, 2nd 49 points and so on.

  • Points are awarded to each member who finishes each of these races. This will be based on their finishing position compared to other Saddleworth Runner.

  • Each runner’s best Six points total from the 15 selected races are added together to give an overall total score for the Year, if you run more than the Six races, the lowest scores can be discarded.

  • To determine the finishing order, we will be using the time / position that the race organiser has put down.

 Groups / Categories

  • In order to give as many members as possible the chance to compete for prizes, the club Championship is divided into ability groups.

  • Existing members are allocated to one of a number of Championship Groups at the start of each year, based on their performances at races, parkrun or based on the Club Handicap from the previous year.

  • New members are allocated to the most appropriate Championship Group once they start competing the Club Championship. This will be based on their performances in their first event.

  • Trophies will be awarded at the end of the year to the top 2 in each group. (This will be increased to 3 if the number of members in a group, who complete 6 races is more than 10). All members who complete 6 races will receive a commemorative item.

  • We will also have a Male / Female Group as in previous years that will use the same point structure.

  • A runner is eligible to win more than one prize.

 The Small Print

  • Members have the right to appeal to the Committee if they believe that they have been allocated to the incorrect Championship Group.

  • Where runners are tied on points in a given Championship Group, the order of determining their position is as follows:

    • the runner with the better head-to-head record will be placed above the other runner(s);

    • if this cannot determine a winner, the runner with the highest points per race average based on all races completed will be placed highest;

    • if this cannot determine a winner, the runner who has completed the most races will be placed highest;

    • if this cannot determine a winner the runners will be determined to be equal.
