Weekly night runs
Andy G and myself are planning on doing some unofficial, adhoc, night runs, out on the hills, on a Tuesday nights from Churchill Playing Fields.
Anyone, like ourselves, who is to soft (or sensible) to engage in Howard's masocistic speed training sessions are welcome to join us anytime we are venturing out.
If you'd like to join us anytime then bring a good headtorch and suitable, full, warm/waterproof body-cover.
Whilst anyone is more than welcome to join us, anytime they wish, neither Andy or myself can be held responsible for anybodies reduction in speed or racing ability as a result of skiving off from Howards sessions.

Owl Run - Tuesday 17.01.2011
It was a perfect clear, frosty, starlit night, for the first official Owl Run of 2012 as fledgling owlett Dan joined wise owls Chris M & Andy G out on the hills.
Dan made his inaugural run with the Saddleworth Night Owls around the Castleshaw Skyline. Starting from Delph the trio took flight up and along Harrop Edge and across Millstone Edge, pausing to enjoy the far reaching views and the wonderful starlit sky. The route continued passed Northern Rocher over Castleshaw Moor and along Moor Lane before dropping into the valley and continuing along Mill Brook (Andy I told you the path was on the other side of the stream ... ) back into Delph.
It was a perfect clear night for running on the hills. There's still time for the hardier runners amongst the club to join us and enjoy the pleasures of the hills at night.
Dan has earned himself 5 Owl Points for the run and 2 bonus points for staying for a drink afterwards.
With a couple of months of darkness still remaining there's still time for people to join us and gain some points to be in contention for winning the coveted Owls Trophy.
Owl Run - Tue 13.11.12
Just a reminder that the 'Owls' will be out stalking the hills & moors of Saddleworth this Tuesday.
This weeks hunting foray will be led by wise owl Andy G. Remember your head-torch, fell shoes, warm clothing and full waterproof body cover and come and enjoy what should be a bracing evening on the hills.
If you've not yet joined us, come and make a start on the points ladder and be in the running to win the coveted 'Owls Trophy' at the end of the winter season. Don't forget, extra points are to be gained if you return to the nest (cross keys) for drinking and merry making afterwards.

Owl Runs
With the winter training sessions now well under way there has been a dissapointingly low interest from club members wanting to join Andy G and myself for Tuesday night 'Owl' runs upon the hills and moors of Saddleworth.
Whilst many have quietly professed an interest to join us, few have actually ventured out to enjoy the delights of the weekly night runs. Excuses such as; "I haven't got my fell shoes with me" or "I haven't got my headtorch this week" and even "oh I may slow you down" are not acceptable reasons for donning road shoes and pounding the unforgiving tarmac instead of venturing out into the darkness.
In a bid to encourage more of you to be tempted away from the rigours of speed training, to enjoy an evenings foray upon the hills, a point based reward system has now been initiated were anyone joining the Owls for an evening's night stalking will be awarded 'Owl Points'. At the end of the winter the points will be totalled up and the person with the most points will be awarded a special 'Owls prize', by the Chief Wise Owls (myself and Andy G)
Points can only be gained by attending a weekly night run held on a normal Tuesday night training session. Points are not awarded for attending the monthly club night runs. Extra points are awarded for those 'Owls' who return to the nest (Cross Keys) for socialising and drinking.
Points Sytem:
Owl Run - 5 points
Nest Visit - 2 points
Points Awarded to date:
Chris M (wise owl-in-chief) 28 points
Andy G (owl-in-chief) 19 points
Lee B 17 points
Shaun T 5 points
With the lure of a fantastic prize on offer this should tempt more of you to don your fell shoes, headtorches and warm clothing and join Andy and myself for our weekly Owl Runs.

The owl haunts ruins and
The owl haunts ruins and flies only at night; preferring to live in darkness it hides from the light. It is a dirty, slothful bird that pollutes its own nest with its dung. It is often found near tombs and lives in caves. Some say it flies backwards. When other birds see it hiding during the day, they noisily attack it to betray its hiding place. Owls cry out when they sense that someone is about to die.
Yes great idea i think i am an owl !!
Join us in flight
Then ruffle your feathers, stretch your wings and take flight with us next Tuesday for an evenings moorland hunting.

more night runs
Hi Chris, Andy,
Great idea, the more night runs the better as far as I'm concerned. I don't tend to do the winter Tuesday road training anyway, plus I don't think any reduction in racing ability would be noticeable with me at the moment... I'll be happy to join you, as long as you don't mind a slower one, and as long as I can get off babysitting duties!
Cheers, Dan
