Tuesday 22nd Feb
Small world or what! I’ve got an appointment with that farmer who shouts at us when we run across his fields when there are sheep in them. You know when we run from Broadstones trig down to the Cross Keys. I think its because we scare the sheep running down hill fast (so I wouldn’t mind but its not me that scares them but because I’m at the back I get to see him).
I actually said, ooh, I think you’re the farmer who shouts when we run across your fields and he acknowledged that he was. I still got the appointment though.
Its Tuesday at 6, and I’m doing the 1min x 20 session after so if I don’t turn up, it means he’s got me.

Very sheep worrying
I think I'd shout if I saw a load of people ploughing through my sheep causing them to scarper!
While sheep can move resonably fast to escape danger their legs, unlike those of a highly fit, and skilled fellrunner, are not capable of descending steep and rough ground as safely and run the risk of breaking them quite easily. In addition, especially around this time of year, pregnant Yews run then risk of losing their unborn Lambs when scared.
We have lots of space to run on our hills, away from the farmers fields, so when running around sheep and other livestock give a little thought to their wellfare, slow down, go around them or avoid the field completely. I bet people would if it was a field full of Bulls!!
It's not going to take any farmer, who regularly sees groups of runners scattering his livestock, long before he comes knocking on the door of Saddleworth Runners.
As individuals and a club we are part of the wider coutryside comunity and have a responsibility to promote and encourage responsible use of the environment.
Sue, if you do get taken capture by the farmer (as I'm sure he is luring you in for the kill after admitting your part in the crime) just remember its Name, Rank & Number only when under interogation. SRC does not exsist!!!

Well said
I agree with Chris. We have to be considerate to the people whose land we run across. I know it's sort of fashionable to knock farmers but the life of a mountain farmer is not an easy one and we should give them our support. If nothing else, think of the race organisors who have to go every year and ask permission from the local farmers to put on our events.
I'm not having a go at you Sue. You were only following the group. It's up to the people at the front to put their brains in gear when around livestock.
Lets hope he doesn't attach
Lets hope he doesn't attach you to the back of his tractor and use you as a rake!
