Saddleworth juniors

As a little experiment........we carried the summer junior sessions on after september. Emailing parents of any interested juniors to let them know there would be a Sunday morning run at the unfeasibly early time of 8am - 9am. Much to our suprise Kids have been turning up to run from Dovestones sailing club. The weather has been pretty kind to us and the kids are full of enthusiasm (at least after an hours running).

During this time we have put on a couple of small events. An orienteering pumpkin run in October and an Xmas hash. The next event will be an easter egg hunt. If you are a parent and want to go on the email list just let me know.

It is our aim to try and build from this small group and keep kids running all year round. We will still run the athletics evenings on thursday nights in summer to help support the Village games but the junior section will aim to get the areas youngsters competing in local races and taking part in an inter club competition with Rossendale and a number of other fell clubs.

Helpers will be encouraged to take the assistant coach course running in april. I only ask that if the club pays for any course I would appreciate it if you would put in a season with the juniors and try to make it a success. Looking at our area, the facilities we have (despite the loss of our track) and the amount of young people who will be energised to take up sport after the Olympics not to mention all of the talented and dedicated people who make up this club. I think it would be a shame not to invite as enthusiastic juniors to take part in the sport we love. Yearly subs £5.
